October – The End of Summer
Your Home – Fall Foliage
 |
Every autumn, nature puts on a brilliant show. The leaves start to turn bright colors, the weather begins to cool, and the nights begin to lengthen. This year, make it a point to enjoy everything that the fall has to offer by decorating your home for the season and making sure you’re ready for winter. As far as fall decorating goes, you can get some inspiration by simply looking outside. Autumn is about earthy tones and natural colors so take a cue from the outdoors and try using natural decorations to liven up your home. Some good fall decorating tips include: |
- Making your own centerpieces from pumpkins, gourds, and corn
- Decorate using oranges, browns, and bronzes for your linens
- Slip covers can drastically change the appearance of your living room, try placing fall colored covers on your sofa and loveseat
- Accent your fireplace and kitchen table with fresh fall scented candles
By adding some simple fall decorations to your home, you can get into the holiday season and make your home look more inviting without spending a lot of money.
Finances – Homeowners Insurance
It’s something that you have to have, so why not make sure you are getting the best deal possible. For many households, simply taking the time to compare different insurance plans can lead to savings of 10% or more per year. You want to make sure that you are adequately insured, but many people make the mistake of getting too much insurance instead. Below, I’ve included some tips that can help you save on your homeowners insurance:
- Add some security devices such as smoke detectors, dead bolts, or a burglar alarm
- Do an annual review to compare the amount of insurance you are carrying to your home and assets. You want to be properly insured without overpaying for insurance you don’t need.
- Often insurers will offer steep discounts if you also get your auto insurance through them.
- Call and ask your insurer if there is anything you can do to save. This simple act can often save you some money.
- Consider raising your deductibe. Call your insurer to find out what you could save by raising your deductible another $250.
If you are considering switching insurers or if you would like to speak to a qualified insurance agent, I would be happy to refer a professional agent to you.
Personal Interest – Change of Season
Now that we’re into fall, be sure to get out and enjoy everything this season has to offer. Cooler air and a change in the weather don’t mean you have to start staying indoors. Instead, try to get out and experience everything this time of year has to offer. The simple act of getting out to view the fall foliage or taking a walk in the crisp October air can give you a better perspective on things.
The other great thing you can do this time of year is take advantage of the fresh produce. Not only are there some great squashes available this time of year, but October is even national apple month. Try celebrating the fall with a fresh baked apple pie or even some caramel apples.
And, of course, have a safe and happy October!
